“My account rep got back to me within minutes of faxing my reorder for Heart Pillows… with all my information I needed. The only I had to say back to her was THANK YOU!”
“Your customer service is exceptional. We like the calls to say “it looks like you might be needing more pillows. Do you want us to send you some?”
“I appreciate the fact that I am able to place my order and request shipments when I need them. Everyone has always given good customer service to our organization.”
“Thank you so much. Our Open Heart Patients LOVE the pillows! The staff of the ICU/CVICU here at Adventist LaGrange want you to know that we appreciate what you do.”
Quality & Education:
“We chose Shumsky because of the quality and educational aspects of the pillows.”
“We have used the custom Heart Pillows and Lung Pillows for years. The product is wonderful!!”
“Our patients love your pillows. They are firm enough to provide support yet soft enough to provide comfort – and they are just the right size for them.”
“The patient who have had open heart surgery can relate to their heart pillow. They are more willing to do their post operative deep breathing and coughing exercises.”
“We use them on the older children as a chest splint when they have to cough or deep breathing. It helps to decrease the discomfort to the chest incision. In addition, the children love to get family, friends and healthcare workers to sign their pillows. It is something that will be a memento of the time they spent in the hospital.”
“The Mother Baby pillows our auxiliary orders from your company are given by the Lactation nurses to moms who have babies in the NICU. They love them!! Since this a rather large expense for the auxiliary to purchase the pillows they are only given out to this group of babies and not to all babies born at Brookwood. We generally deliver about 4,000 babies per year! I think the Lactation nurses average giving out 25 pillows per month in the NICU. What started as a one-year project has now become a “permanent” one because the response has been so positive. We love working with your company too!”

Re: Pamper & Play Pillow “The pillow is awesome! It is made with great quality and has many accessories and uses that differ from those available in local stores. It is a very supportive pillow to the nursing mom, especially those who have to endure a cesarean section. It makes it possible for multiple positions to be obtained as so the mother is able to prevent plugged ducts or mastitis. It has also been useful in helping dads to become acclimated to their newborns as well, especially those first time dads. If I may, it has been great to have a sample to show nursing mothers what assistive devices are out their for them when they visit my home based business to buy their nursing bras and slings. I have showed it to many colleagues, demonstrated & tested it with many clients, and it has also been a loaner as well. My best friend is a Midwife and she too has recommended the pillow to her patients. Needless to say it has been quite loved and needs to be retired…. Thank you Shumsky Therapeutic Pillows for making such a wonderful pillow to assist our clients in comfort in a time of such need! The pillow has definitely been a blessing!!”
Sincerely,Susanna M. Baggett RN, BSN
The pillows were delivered to me this afternoon and they look great! I brought them up to the patient unit and stored them. Not 5 minutes later a nurse said to the cardiac social worker – a pillow pet just doesn’t help when a kid has to cough – too bad we don’t have those heart pillows. The social worker said, in fact, we do! So the first pillow has been delivered and put to use!!!!!!

Emotional Support:
“The patients, young and old, have loved them. These pillows bring a smile to their faces”
“The pillows are tangible evidence that our medical professionals care about the woman as a whole person- body, mind and spirit.”
Brave Kid Capes: “The kids love the kits! Their eyes light up when the box comes into the room. I haven’t taken pictures yet, but will do so with the next lucky child to receive one.
The metal carrying case is a great little storage case that they keep all their stuff in. ”
“I have nothing but great compliments on these pillows. The patients seem to be obsessed with “where is my pillow.” I had been making the pillows prior to us getting these. And although mine were homemade, (heart-felt), these from you are what the patients and families are impressed with. The doctors have been asked by all the patients to sign their heart, and the doctors do, in more ways than one.
Thank you for helping us heal their hearts with hugs and love.”

“The patients love the pillow. Our patient satisfaction has risen by just giving the pillow to each patient. They are the perfect size to cough and deep breath after surgery, they are a support measure, and they are assisting our post C-birth mothers with nursing.”
“One of my aunts had heart surgery at the Ronnie Green Heart Center in Gainesville , GA. She received a heart pillow from your company. That is how I found out about Shumsky pillows. From what my aunt experienced after her heart surgery, her heart pillow became her “best friend” for several months. More than the practical service of the pillow, it was a huge mental and emotional comfort for her. That is so important too.”

Patient Feedback:
Dear Friends:
Thank you so much for such a simple, but wonderful product. I am grateful for that someone at St. Francis William L. Carpenter Heart Center (Greenville,South Carolina) who recognized the tremendous benefit of your products.
On March 27, 2007, I completed my aortic valve replacement. There have been several occasions since the operation where “Betty” (I had to name my pillow after my grandmother) has literally kept me from being readmitted to the hospital. I am a 44 year-old father of two boys, ages 4 and 7. Betty protects me when they forget about dad’s surgery.
I’m sure you’re aware of the valve replacement procedure. Having your breast bone sawed in half makes sneezing as scary as jumping out of an airplane with no parachute. Let’s not forget the equally terrifying partner to sneezing, nausea… The physical and mental comfort of having Betty at my side is invaluable; your pillow makes the unbearable very tolerable. To plagiarize the MasterCard commercial…aortic valve replacement with ATS mechanical valve $110,000, lab work, heart catherization and Dobutamine stress test $18,000, monthly prescription co-pays $180, Shumsky Therapeutic Pillow – PRICELESS!
I am sincerely grateful to your company and your products for making my recovery so much more bearable. It is criminal to think a person could go through that procedure without one of your heart pillows.
Most Sincerely, Byron R. Blanton
I just want to thank you very much for the cardiac pillow.
Two weeks ago yesterday, I had a maze ablation (after 5 other ablations) and a triple by-pass at the Ross Center of Ohio State University Hospital. Obviously my thanks go to the doctors and nurses for my rapid recovery. But, the first thing they gave me upon returning to the room was a pillows and it has played a vital roll in my recovery.
I am completely mobile and feel as if I am functioning normally, but I still keep the pillow handy as a reminder not to do anything stupid.
It has been invaluable in my recovery.
Thank you very much, David J. DuRoss
My husband had an aortic valve replacement and received his “heart pillow” from the hospital. This has become his best friend since the surgery. He said that he doesn’t know what he would have done without the pillow to brace his chest when he has to cough. It has really made a difference.
Thank you for making such a wonderful comfort item.
Sincerely Linda Page
Marketing:
“It motivates the patient to cough and deep breath. Patients see it as their “souvenir” and are asking staff to sign their pillow. Doctors illustrate the “bypass” procedure (using the diagram on the pillow) for the patient per request. With patient name, MD, surgery and date written on the pillow, staff is reminded what the patient had done. Good advertising for the institution.”
“We give them away to post-surgical patients and enjoy the goodwill (PR) that we reap by having our name inprinted on the product. We also receive good feedback on the heart picture from doctors that use the pillow to illustrate the procedure to the patient.”
Seen & Overheard:
Comments given to “Live with Regis and Kelly” host Regis Philbin upon hearing of his open heart surgery:
Phil: Go for it! Been there , done that. Hang loose, it’s not as bad as you might imagine and the end result will be great. Just remember, that if you cough, to hang onto the pillow they provide. Good luck.
Michele: Dear Regis, we’ll be praying for you, your family and the doctors and nurses who will be taking care of you. go in with a positive attitude and faith in God. wishing you speedy recovery. don’t forget to use your heart pillow and incentive spirometer as they will be your best friends for the next few weeks. God Bless…
Larry: Regis I’m home from my 2nd bypass in 9 months.Learn to love your Pillow . It will be one of your best friends . Good Luck Larry
Jeff Smith: Reege: I don’t believe it! I am home 7 days from my bypass and was looking forward to weeks of uniterrupted “Live” and now you go down. Mine was February 25 in Stony Brook Long Island. I’m home one week and it gets easier every week. Just lay down, give them your arm and the next thing you know you’re in the recovery room. Then the healing starts. Sit, stand, and walk. Your pillow and incentive spirometer will be your best friends. Other than that, your “team” will lead you back. As you’re drifting off into never, never land remember the Notre Dame fight song. Good Luck! Regards to Mr.Foley–Jeff Smith
