Using your Shumsky Therapeutic Pillow
Can I wash my Shumsky Pillow?
Absolutely! All of our pillows are machine washable (cold or warm water, no bleach, no fabric softener), and they can be tumble dried on medium. The markers that come with the pillow have a permanent ink that will not wash out.
How do I use my Shumsky Therapeutic Pillow?
You should always follow your caregivers instructions. If you have questions, just ask!
Can I get a replacement pillow, or a pillow for a friend or family member who needs one?

Purchasing pillows for your facility
Are discounts available on larger orders?
Yes. Wholesale pricing is available to hospitals and other facilities. Wholesale quotes include markers for autographing and made-to-order custom imprints (minimums apply). Select “Order Wholesale” now for a quote on wholesale pricing.

Do I have to receive all my pillows all at once?
No. We offer FREE WAREHOUSING for up to a year. You still get the benefits of ordering your annual quantity discounts but we store your pillows on-site and ship only as your need them.
Do I have to pay in advance?
You can but we also offer convenient invoicing for Shumsky Account clients.
Can you help me custom design my pillow?
Sure. Give us an idea of who your patient is and how you might use your pillow and we’ll offer some suggestions for custom artwork.
What kind of artwork files do you accept?
We accept electronic art files for Mac or PC computer. Current graphics applications supported are: Illustrator, FreeHand, (CorelDraw saved as .AI). All files types are vector graphic Files- .EPS, .AI, .FH9. Please send all files in vector format with fonts converted to outlines. The applications are listed in order of preference. Please note: Word®, PowerPoint®, Excel® or above files with placed or linked images cannot be used. Supported art files may be e-mailed as an attachment to pillows@shumsky.com.
Where might I get funds for Shumsky Therapeutic Pillows?
Due to the recent changes in health insurance coverage and the current economic climate, some facilities have faced difficulties in securing funding for Shumsky Therapeutic Pillows. With that in mind, we have compiled a list of creative funding sources that have been used successfully by some of our current customers.
Department Budget
Shumsky Therapeutic Pillows have become an integral part of the patient’s recovery process for many inpatient units. With this in mind, many departments have included the pillow in their annual department budget. Other departments that may contribute funds are Imaging, Patient Education, Rehabilitation, Marketing, Public Relations and Hospital Administration.
Third party billing
Many hospitals are choosing this option more and more. Unlike a disposable item, patients take the pillow home and continue to use it well beyond their recovery period. Please check with Central Supply and/or your billing office when considering this option.
Foundation, Auxiliary or Volunteer Organization
This is possibly the most used resource next to department budgets. Many volunteer organizations will earmark funds each year specifically for the pillows. The pillows are imprinted with both the hospital logo and the group name, making the pillows an excellent recruitment tool for the organization!
Mended Hearts Chapter
This national organization has local chapters all over the United States. You can go to www.mendedhearts.org to locate the chapter nearest your facility to inquire if they would be interested in sponsoring your Heart Pillow program.
Physicians/Surgeons
Many doctors recognize the importance of their patients’ post-operative recovery. These doctors are willing to purchasing therapeutic pillows for their patients knowing that this added touch can make a big difference in their patient’s recovery process while promoting their practice.
Pharmaceutical Companies
Many of the pharmaceutical companies that manufacture medications relevant to the surgeries requiring the cough devices for patient recovery will consider funding the pillows. It gives their product or company name greater exposure while providing an essential tool to assist with the patient’s recovery.
