Chance Encounter

January 27, 2012 By Pillow People Leave a Comment

Today, while visiting a local hospital, I came across a few patients that were using our Heart Pillows.  As I was walking through the lobby, I noticed a small woman in a wheelchair holding a Shumsky Mid-size Heart Pillow.  I stood there for a second before deciding to approach her.  I walked over to her and asked how she liked her pillow.  Caught off guard, she paused, and then replied that she absolutely loved it.  “This is my second one and I don’t know what I would do without it”, she said.  I then told her that I worked for the company that made the pillows and her face lit up.  She went on to tell me about how useful it’s been and demonstrated for me how her Dr. told her to use the pillow.

After chatting with her and her son for several minutes another patient caught my eye.  He was also being released and was holding tight a bright red Shumsky Heart Pillow.  He joined our conversation also telling me how much he loved his pillow and that he was so happy they were made in the United States.  “So few things are anymore,” he said.

I left the hospital feeling very blessed to work for a company that not only provides a quality product, but that brings so much comfort to the people that receive them.  :)

Brave Kid Capes

December 5, 2011 By Pillow People Leave a Comment

In 2009, the development team at Shumsky TP started working on a new product line for helping children cope with challenging situations.  This May, we debuted Brave Kid Capes (BKC) at the Child Life Coordinator conference .  We were overwhelmed by the positive response and excitement about the capes, and the many applications in which they can support children.

We are proud to announce that Brave Kid Capes was recently awarded the 2011 Seal of Excellence from Creative Child Magazine.  Creative Child Magazine’s Awards Program is unique in that all products submitted are reviewed by parents, educators and professionals.  For more information on Brave Kid Capes click here.

The holiday season is upon us!

November 26, 2011 By Pillow People Leave a Comment

Holidays are a time for love, laughter, joy and giving!  This past week, the Miami Valley showed that even though times are tough, they are still willing to give to a good cause.

November 21st-23rd, The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton was the setting for The K99.1 FM Cares for Kids Radiothon.  This 3 day event involves countless hours of preparation, volunteer’s time and stories of hope from young children and families.  Our very own Heather Craaybeek was even on hand to paint faces!  Thanks to the generosity of our community, the radiothon raised $200,410.00 to help purchase new medical equipment.  Visit our Facebook page for pictures of the radiothon and Heather’s painted faces!

In this same spirit of giving, our employees brought in donations for a local food bank in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving.  We are continuing our efforts by collecting items for another local charity in the weeks leading up to Christmas.  This year, take a break from searching the mall for the perfect gift and search your closet for an extra coat and hat.  Remember…”Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts.” ~ Janice Maeditere
